Relocation Announcement

Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has important news to share about the future of our facility and property located in Winter Park, Florida. In fall 2011, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) approached the Florida Conference Executive Committee with an official proposal to purchase our entire facility/property as part of road expansion work on Interstate 4. The sale was completed January 27, 2012. Then, on December 7, 2012, Florida Conference purchased the former Robb & Stucky Interiors building at 351. S. State Rd. 434 in Altamonte Springs.

1. Why did Florida Conference decide to sell?
   
   While we have known for several years that our current facility limited our ability to do all we could (working with limited office space and parking capacity), we did not initiate this process. Rather, the Florida Department of Transportation began eminent domain proceedings some time ago. With the knowledge that a partial taking would further limit parking, it became clear that it was advantageous to sell the entire facility and property. Through good and careful negotiations, a purchase price was agreed upon with provision for extended possession by Florida Conference.
2. Where is Florida Conference moving?
   
   On December 7, 2012, Florida Conference signed closing papers to finalize the purchase of the former Robb & Stucky Interiors building at 351 S. State Rd. 434 in Altamonte Springs.
3. When is Florida Conference moving?
   
   Our agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation allows us to stay in our current facility for two years from January 2012—rent-free! Our prayerful goal is to renovate and occupy the new Altamonte Springs location before the end of 2013.
4. Who decided/approved the sale?
   
   The Florida Conference Executive Committee was unified in its decision to move forward to sell our property to the Florida Department of Transportation.
5. Why didn’t the wider church body and Conference-wide leaders know this was in the works?
   
   To maintain the integrity of our negotiations with the Florida Department of Transportation, it was important to limit discussions and approvals to the Florida Conference Executive Committee.
6. Did Florida Conference get a fair price for the sale?
   
   Based on the diligent work of Conference staff and respected legal counsel, we are confident that we received a fair price from the Florida Department of Transportation. The price was based on favorable appraisals, especially considering the current real estate market in Florida.
7. Won’t this move put a strain on Florida Conference’s budget?
   
   No. Our agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation allows us to occupy the current facility rent-free—and the Department of Transportation will cover certain moving and relocation expenses when that day comes. This will be in addition to the purchase price.
8. How will this impact Seventh-day Adventist churches and schools?
   
   Our office relocation in the coming years will be beneficial to our churches and schools. Florida Conference will have more space in a new facility to house all ministries and support teams in one centralized location to serve our churches and schools well.
9. Will the Adventist Book Center move to the same facility as Florida Conference or will it be at a separate location?
   
   The former Robb & Stucky Interiors building at 351 S. State Rd. 434 in Altamonte Springs, purchased on December 7, 2012, is more than 80,000 square feet which provides adequate space to house the Florida Conference headquarters, an expanded Adventist Book Center, and Sunbelt Natural Foods distribution.
