ACTS Update—Hurricane Ike

Posted at 2:08 pm

ACTS (Active Community Team Services) is now in full deployment, moving by faith into Texas. Union College’s International Rescue and Relief team, which is registered with the State Emergency Management for swift water rescue, is already deployed. They are partially sponsored and requested by ACTS to be First Responders. We are currently working through the local Emergency Operation Centers to assist thousands who are stranded by flooding and are without food, water, and supplies.

The second wave of trained specialists will be leaving for Texas from Montemorelos University in Mexico. They are students from the School of Medicine who are an ACTS Chapter of EMTs, Paramedics, and local Emergency Response trained and certified students.

Three other ACTS Incident Commanders are leading teams into various parts of Texas to help where they are needed most. The fact that ACTS volunteers are NIMS (National Incident Management System)-compliant and CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)-trained is essential to local emergency leaders. Galveston Island, Beaumont, Orange County, and Clear Lake are some of the areas requesting assistance from ACTS. As requests are received, ACTS has deployed its mobile kitchen fleet and other relief response equipment, including semi trucks loaded with relief supplies, all-terrain forklifts, large tents, fuel, water tanks, etc., to designated sites. Orange County, the focus of request, is almost entirely under water!

Groups are coming from across the U.S. to assist in this historic 500-mile-wide area devastated by broken levees which has flooded thousands of homes.

Once again, ACTS moves by faith in desperate times of need. We know God will continue to miraculously move upon your hearts providing as He did for Katrina, Fay, and Gustav, and He’ll do the same for Ike. ACTS Update—Active Community Team Services

Posted at 2:46 pm

Gustav—Channel 13 News featured ACTS first responders with Gustavl Students and ACTS Volunteers were gutting homes and distributing water, food, tarps, and cleaning supplies to survivors East of New Orleans.

Perlington was devastated once again with 13 feet of water. ACTS CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) trained volunteers were in this same area for almost a year following Katrina. Volunteers have been busy for two weeks since they began the day after the storm struck.

Haiti—ACTS is requested to assist in devastated Haiti with roofing, food, and cleaning supplies. Sponsors are needed to cover the shipping costs of supplies to dying survivors. Haitian pastors in Florida are requesting supplies to be donated through their congregations.

Ike—ACTS’ fleet of kitchens are on standby, ready to assist with hurricane Ike. Equipment is being shipped to Mexico to prepare for future response and community love in action!

Fay—ACTS provided 4,300 volunteer hours, 23 pallets of cleaning supplies, tarps, and food, and served more than 1,000 families in the state registered distribution site in Melbourne, Florida.

Almost 30 inches of rain brought four feet of flooding. One of ACTS’ large tents provided supplies behind the Melbourne Church to its community which has now experienced love in action!

Training—The Southeastern California Conference Academies, Loma Linda Church, and La Sierra University just completed ACTS training certification for CERT-trained students.

Don Dudley, Superintendent of SECC schools said, “Tools are now in place to launch a viable program on their campus that would be able to interface with local community officials in responding to disaster.”

Students and faculty representing schools from the Southern Union will be trained at Nosoca Pines Camp in CERT and ACTS Training Institute level 1. Most of these schools have previously deployed with ACTS nationally and are now being trained for International response free of charge.

ACTS equipment is now being prepared for California to use in emergency response and community love in action for use from the Loma Linda Church and the Loma Linda University and Academy campuses.

Testimonies are posted on actswr.org home page.

Donations are urgently needed NOW in this independent ministry of training youth to respond around the world, being the hands and feet of Jesus! We do not charge youth to respond, but depend upon YOU to be a blessing to allow them to minister in this great time of need in the last days of earth’s history.
