Southern Union Conference recently coordinated a meeting for Hispanic church elders from Florida and Southeastern Conferences at Greater Miami Adventist Academy in Miami, Fla. The two conferences worked together in planning the program, facilitating the promotion, registration, sharing the cost of meals, and miscellaneous expenses.
The purpose of the meeting was to train and motivate elders in their role as spiritual leaders. Elder Alejandro Bullón, international evangelist, spoke about the organizational styles of churches and the evangelistic role of church elders.
“The prevailing feeling from the meeting was very positive,” says Jorge Mayer, Southern Union Hispanic Ministries Director. “Elder Bullón has a magical and powerful touch with the audience, and people love to listen to him. He is human and spiritual, and everyone I spoke with was uplifted.”
This was the first such meeting organized by Mayer for Hispanic church elders, and plans are underway to have meetings in 2011 and 2012. In addition to these events, there will also be a Festival de laicos 2011 de la Unión del Sur (Festival of the Laity) for Florida and Southeastern Conference constituents in February 2011 at Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center, Leesburg, Fla.
