The Creative Ministry Team had a great weekend at Maranatha SDA Church in Miami this past Sabbath.  It was a blessing to fellowship and present our workshop in their church.

A special Thank You to the leaders and teachers who took the time to attend.  I find that the Lord always blesses when we are about His work.

In a recent email I noted that Phylis Washington (Director for Children’s Ministry NAD) is retiring soon.  I know the Lord will continue to use her as she moves to another phase in her life.

She has a passion for the children and was an asset to the ministry.  She will be missed.

Here is a resource for you to use.

Object Lesson – God shows his love for us by protecting us. When….
Materials:
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pinch of pepper
Small cup saucer or plate
Plastic spoon

What you will do during class:
You will pour a small mound of salt (about 1/4 of a teaspoon), representing God’s people into the middle of the saucer. Then you will drop a very small amount of pepper over the mound of salt. The pepper, representing harm or evil will then be removed using the plastic spoon. First you will rub the spoon vigorously over a piece of clothing to create static electricity. When you place the spoon near the pepper, it will attach itself to the spoon and can be lifted away.
What you will say:
Today, I would like to show you how we can always trust in our Lord to protect us. Even when circumstances seem hopeless. This saucer can represent the world, that we all live in. I am going to take some salt and place it on the world. This salt represents God’s people. Now as we know the world is full of danger and evil. Let me take some of this pepper, and put it on top of the salt. This pepper represents danger, and it is right on top of God’s people. How can we remove this danger? (Allow for responses and explain how most suggestions would be hopeless or take forever.)
It may seem impossible to us, but God can do miraculous things. Let me show you. (Take the spoon and rub it to create static electricity, then lift off the pepper.) You see, sometimes we are faced with danger and have no clue how to escape. But God is always there for us. He can keep us safe no matter what.

This week is a short week for most since Labor Day was Monday.  It is great to get a break after a very busy summer schedule.  I enjoyed seeing some of you at Family Camp @ Camp Kulaqua this  past weekend.  The Family Tea was a success.  It was fun to share a cup of tea with the families and fellowship with them.

Greetings again.  I enjoy this time of the week, for a couple of reasons…one being that it is closer to the weekend and the other is that I get to visit with all of you.  My travels will take me to Camp Kulaqua for Family Camp this coming weekend where I will be hosting the Family Tea on Sunday, August 31.  It will be a great opportunity to fellowship and enjoy some family time over a cup of tea.  I hope to see some of you there.

I have been trying to catch up on my reading again and in the process I came across this cute storyParenting is definitely a job for the whole church family!

“ Many times during the church services parents struggle to keep their children quiet.  A couple was having this problem and as the child would get loud the father would say, Shh, Be quiet.  The father did this several more times until he had enough.  The father picked up the child and we knew that the little one would be getting a little spanking for not obeying dad.  As the father began walking down the aisle the little child in his daddy’s arms began crying and shouted so everyone could hear him.’ PLEASE PRAY FOR ME.’  This took everyone by surprise, even the father had a grin on his face.  How could he spank this child when the whole congregation would be praying.”

What is a ‘Creative Ministry Workshop’?  A Creative Ministry Workshop is a workshop design to “Equip the whole church for ministry to children and families”.  The Creative Ministry team would love an opportunity to come to your church or area to do a workshop.  We are working on our upcoming calendar, so please contact me if you are interested in scheduling a workshop.

Events you may want to be involved in:

September 6   2-5pm Creative Ministry Workshop@Maranatha SDA Church in Miami

Happy Mid-Week:

I trust that all of our pathfinders and staff made it home safely from Oshkosh.  What a blessing to see reports and pictures from the awesome event.   600 Baptisms at the Camporee!  Great Celebration and Rejoicing in Heaven!

As I spent time review programs and ideas this week I found a Memory Verse Activity I thought you might like, so I have included it below.  Teaching our children to learn and review memory verse should be a high priority.  I enjoy looking for ways to make it memorable and fun.

Backward Memory Verse Activity:   Write out the memory verse completely backwards on a white board or sheet of cardboard.  Then let the children try to figure out what it says.          For example:          ”25:2 ekul nam dna dog htiw ruovaf ni dna modsiw in werg susej dna                              If they can’t get it right, then tell them that this funny language is from Luke 2:52 – “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”

Happy Wednesday…Hump Day.  Another day to live for the Lord!

School has started, Is starting, or maybe you are not involved with school time anymore, but…

Are You Teaching Your Kids to be Courageous?

If you were to ask your children to identify someone who is a hero, what sort of person would they select? Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and often may not seem noteworthy at first. However, the folks we see as heroic tend to have a couple of things in common—they don’t hesitate to act on their core values, and they sacrificially place others’ well-being ahead of their own. Teaching our kids to be courageous; to stand up for what they believe, take action, and put others first—can be a challenging process, but it’s one of the best lessons they can learn.

We live in a world where technology connects us to people from all over the globe, in ways that would have been unthinkable even a generation ago. As a result, we’re not only positioned to be more aware of the needs of others, we’re often also better equipped and empowered to make an impact.

Whether in our own backyard (or schoolyard), or on the other side of the planet, a heroic family is a household that makes a conscious, unified priority of reaching out in love to those who are hurting. Hopefully, your kids will recognize a hero at the dinner table—and in the mirror.

This a question we need to look at as we minister to our children, whether they are family or church family.

I know the Lord will give us direction if we ask.

Thought of the Day:

When things seem to be going all wrong, STOP and affirm your trust in God.  Calmly bring these matters to Him, and leave them in His capable hands.  I needed that today.!!!! What about you?

Thank you to those who send pictures of your VBS program this week.  Awesome.  I know that God used you to bring joy and Jesus to the children’s lives. Check out Florida Conference Children and Family Facebook page to see the photos.

I have been invited to participate in a “Back to School Bash” this coming weekend.  This reminds me that school has and will be starting for the children ending their summer.  Please keep them in your prayers as they enter another phase of their lives.

The Funny Side of Parenting

Two kids are talking to each other. One says, “I’m really worried. My dad works twelve hours a day to give me a nice home and good food.

My mom spends the whole day cleaning and cooking for me. I’m worried sick!”

The other kid says, “What have you got to worry about? Sounds to me like you’ve got it made!”

The first kid says, “What if they try to escape?”

See attached flyers for the upcoming GO FISH programs. October 11-13, 2014. If are able to attend one of these events let me know.

I would love to get you registered for the event.

Looking forward to another week that we can impact children’s lives.

Pray for the Pathfinders from Florida and around the world as they travel and enjoy Oshkosh Camporee.

It has been an awesome week so far.  I visited with old friends which just made my day.  I visited Kress Memorial Church VBS this past weekend.

It was good to see lots of children enjoying the program.  Good job! Kress Memorial.

I was reviewing the files that Rhoda had saved for me before she left her position at the conference and came across this little bit of humor.

It brought a smile to my heart as I thought about how children think.  So thanks to Rhoda for leaving this for me to share.  Enjoy!

I’m Confused

This is a story about a little girl who, on the way home from church, turned to her mother and

said, “Mommy, the Preacher’s sermon this morning confused me.”

The mother said, “Oh! Why is that?”

The girl replied, “Well, he said that God is bigger than we are. Is that true?”

“Yes, that’s true,” the mother replied.

“He also said that God lives within us. Is that true, too?”

Again the mother replied, “Yes.”

“Well,” said the girl. “If God is bigger than us and He lives in us, wouldn’t He show through?”

School starts shortly and the children will be very busy with their new schedules.

Plan to do special things for them during the school year.

Looking forward to seeing and hearing about your plans.

I have attached the Florida Conference Children, Family and Singles latest calendar.  Check out the website for other resources too.

May God Richly Bless you this next week.

7/24/2014

The week is almost gone and I am just getting into the office.  The Florida Conference Ministerial Retreat began Sunday thru yesterday.  My department was responsible for providing programs for the children.  I have put things away and now I am ready to visit with you.  I have included a prayer activity that can be used by families during their worship time or you can use it for family time during your church service.

PRAYER

A powerful way to pray as a family is to follow ACTS.

A – Adoration, telling God how wonderful He is

C – Confession, admitting our sins to God

T – Thanksgiving, expressing our gratitude to God

S – Supplication, asking God for things we need

You may choose to pray through one or all of these sections. Invite anyone who wants to pray to do so.

Adoration

In reading the Bible today, what are some of the things we learned about God? God judges sin. God pursues us. He calls His people to preach the truth. He often loves us enough to provide second chances. He forgives our sins. Praise the Lord for these things.

Confession

The book of Jonah is filled with confession and forgiveness. Jonah confesses and God forgives. The Ninevites confess, and God forgives. Let’s take this time to confess our sins to the Lord.

It is helpful if a parent takes the lead in confessing his or her sin first.

Thanksgiving

Can you think of a time God gave you a second chance? Are you thankful for His mercy and grace in your life just as He showed mercy and grace to the Ninevites?

Supplication

Jonah had a hard heart toward the wicked people of Ninevah. Unfortunately, it is easy for us to have a hard heart toward others as well. Let’s take this time and pray specifically for people, for cities, and for nations. Pray for God to give us His heart toward those who are far from Him, and for God to bring to repentance those who need to be saved.

This coming Sunday July 27, 2014 is family day at the Tropicana.  You can get away and watch the Ray’s Game.  Go the Florida Conference Website and look under Children and Family Ministries for discount price and information.

Family Camp at Camp Kulaqua is August 29-Sept 1.  This is an excellent time for families to be together. Plan to be a part of this.  Go to the Camp Kulaqua website and register.  They are working hard to provide a program that your family will not want to miss.  I hope to see you there.  Also look on the Florida Conference website for a flyer regarding a Family Tea that weekend during Family Camp.

I hope that your church either had or will be having a VBS.  Let me know how it went and send pictures.  Check the website out for the VBS report form.

I had a busy but awesome week, Praying that you had a great week too.

Until next week.

Blessings!

Sneakers is adapting quite nicely to the office (see attached photo) always is into something, like the paw is in the candy dish??? You never know where Sneakers will show up next!

The Creative Ministry Team spent and awesome Sabbath with All Nations SDA Church in St Petersburg this past weekend.  Their warm hospitality made for a great time learning and fellowship.

Thank You! All Nations SDA Church!

Sunday will find some of the TEAM at Camp Kulaqua doing the Children’s Programming for the Florida Conference Pastors and families.  Please pray for the TEAM as they minister to the children.

I have a passion for making learning fun and sharing ideas.  So…. In my reading/research this week I came across some ideas for making Memory Verse memorization fun also below is a Prayer time idea.

Learning the Memory verse Idea:

Find The Other Half: Print some of the quarter’s memory verses on colored slips of paper. Cut these slips in half. Hide one of the halves around the room. Then, give each child one of the remaining half pieces. The child is to find his matching piece only. When all are found, read the verses out loud.

Making Prayer Time Memorable:

Improv the prayer. I have a bunch of “hams” in my class and they love to improv. Divide your kids into pairs or small groups. Assign each group a section of the prayer. Give them 60 seconds to decide how they’ll act out their section. The group should use everyone–no one should be left out. Then you read the prayer and kids run up to act out their portion. It’s fun! You could swap the cards around and keep going for even more fun. If you have puppets, you could allow the kids to use the puppets to demonstrate the prayer.

Next week my weekly email will be late as I will be at camp until Wednesday.

Please feel free to contact me to share ideas, ask for information, or just to chat.

I enjoy your emails and look forward to meeting you some day.

Have an awesome “rest of the week”.

Praying daily for you and your ministry.

I trust you had a great week and took time to be patriotic on Independence Day.

The (mascot) cat in my office has a new name  “Sneakers”.  Thanks for helping with an awesome name.

Look for more of “Sneakers” in the near future.

Today is the birthday of my granddaughter.  She is so excited about being 6 years old.

The anticipation and excitement that goes into planning for ones birthday at that age is great.

I wonder whether we create anticipation in the children that we minister to in our churches.

Do they look forward to the programs?  Do we create our programs with excitement that they

would not want to miss?  I hope that your goal is to make it memorable.

Here are a couple prayer ideas for you to try.

BAND-AID PRAYER-give each person a Band-Aid to put on. This is a reminder

and source for praying for those who are hurting and suffering both physically or

emotionally.

POCKET FULL OF PRAYERS- take your class or youth group on an outing where

there is an abundance of small stones. Ask each person to select a smooth one

about the size of a grape or small plum. Back at the church sand, paint or gloss

each stone. Put all the stones in a pile and Use the stones to build an altar. Then

pray a prayer of community. Give each person a stone to put in their pocket as a

constant reminder of their relationship with God and with others.

Events happening this month:

Creative Ministry Workshop                                                      July 12, 2014 2-5pm @ All Nations SDA Church St Petersburg, Florida

Family Day Rays Game @ the Tropicana Ball Field July 27, 2014  (See our website for details and special rate)

VBS programs are happening all over the Florida  Check with your local church for dates and times.   Get involved!

Have and awesome week.  Praying for you and the children, families and singles in your church.
