President's Prayer Update and Communique, August 26, 2010
Dear Friends:
A couple of weeks ago, the DeLand Spanish Company was organized under the direction of Pastor Abel Paulin. The Spanish-speaking group now has 62 members and about 100 people were present for the service. Each Sabbath attendance runs around 70-80 people.
Four years ago, attendance in the English-speaking congregation (out of which the new group was formed) was about 20, and the Spanish group was about 25. Today the English-speaking group has 80-90; combined attendance from both groups has gone from 45 to 160 in four years!
The Port Charlotte Church School's enrollment is up 48% over the previous school year!
The Children and Family Ministries Department conducted two seminars recently to teach children how to witness -- "Go Fish for Kids." Several children and parents from the Miami Springs church attended among many others. Pastor Glenn Aguirre says, "ALL of our kids had an awesome time, and I made them our recruiters for next year. One of our girls, Natalie, has been witnessing to her family and praying with people! She says, "Go Fish changed my life." Her story is amazing. Now, she wants to be baptized and continue to work for the Lord!!!"
A few weeks ago, I mentioned the church plant by young adults from the Vineyard Company in Orlando. It is an inspiring story. You may hear the testimony of Gabriel Cardona at:

In addition to our regular prayer requests, you have been praying with me about a serious issue that we have been facing. The Lord is guiding. Please continue to pray about this unspoken request.
Here are our regular prayer requests:
- For the Lord to continue to "raise up" an army of youth in our churches to lead in revival and mission. Also, pray for a breakthrough in reaching young people on secular campuses. The Lord continues to work in Tallahassee in powerful ways.
- Please pray for the Integrated Youth Ministries Convention this October 21-24, 2010 at Camp Kulaqua. It will be an extraordinary event with training from an outstanding lineup of nationally recognized speakers. Training will be provided for Children's and Family Ministries, Pathfinders, Youth, Young Adult, and Adventist Christian Education. It's an important step toward a comprehensive approach to discipling our young people and bringing them into mission-centered leadership in the churches.
- For our churches to continue to fall more deeply in love with Jesus and commit to the main priority of their church which is communicating His love and grace with people far from God.
- Pray for people who are without jobs, especially those within our Conference family.
- Continue to pray for the Lord to provide for the needs of His work and that God will help His people experience the blessing of faithfully returning tithe.
- For leaders within the Conference who are ill (as well as for others):
- Evangelist Sunshine Waters is progressing from her stroke on June 6, 2009. She is still in Physical Therapy and making progress.
- Continue to pray for Raquel Santillana, recently retired from Human Resources. She has been undergoing treatments in Mexico and the doctor sees great progress.
- That there will be no destructive storms affecting Florida in 2010. So far, so good.
- For the Lord to revive Christian Education for the purpose of discipling our young people.
- Pray for God's guidance as we implement the CREATION Health/Healthy 100 curriculum whereby we may serve our communities throughout Florida Conference. This is going to be initiated in many of the churches this fall. It is a collaborative partnership with Florida Hospital.
God bless you,
Mike
